Our history

The brand was founded in 2002 and the first off tool bakkies covers prototypes saw the light early in 2003.

After 12 months of development the first off-tool bakkie lid prototype made from ABS plastic saw the light of day.

The rigidek bakkie cover for the Ford Ranger Montana with its unique opening system launched in October 2004.

Our rigidek bakkie lid featured an unique duel hinge system that allowed it to open wider with more usable space that any tonneau cover ever!

Using Computer Aided Design for our super popular single hinge rigidek bakkie cover for the Ford Bantam. 

 We received our OEM approval from General Motors South Africa and our Rigidek tonneau cover became an official GM accessory. 

Being able to lock the rigidek in the open position had the advantage that large loads can be transported without removing it.

A throw-over tent was developed that converted the tent in less than a minute.

Calamity! The last ABS plastic rigidek bakkie cover developed before the manufacturer of the plastic sheets we used went into liquidation.

After 4 years of research and Development a new manufacturing method comprising composite Aluminium and stainless steel is developed. 

Another world first! We develop a custom electro-mechanical locking system that allows auto-locking when pushed down and remote unlocking AND open at the touch of a button. 

We break the records again and  develop the world's first remote tailgate unlocking and opening system.

It is truly an honor to build a custom rigidek for a customer that loves his truck!

Another large fleet order!

 After mulling over a product idea for more than 20 years, its finally taking shape in our CAD 3D design software. 

 Real world testing is the core of our research and development cycle at rigidek. Here we start testing a 3D printed plastic and Aluminium design prototype.
